Restoration

At the beginning of the 21st century, the castle was thoroughly restored, with respect for its historic structure and original materials. Since then, Veulen Castle has once again firmly established itself in the Hesbayelandscape—as a witness to a rich past and as a living heritage with a future.

Veulen Castle and the surrounding estate underwent a complete restoration in 2001, divided into two intensive campaigns. The first campaign, from 2001 to 2009, was led by the then owners, the Vogel family. The second, from 2016 to 2023, was continued by the current Van der Meer family, who have used the castle as their home and workplace ever since.

 The first restoration campaign (2001–2009)

At the beginning of 2001, the entire building was meticulously mapped. It soon became clear that a major restoration was necessary: the roofs and parts of the interior had been severely damaged by years of leaks.

In 2016, the Van der Meer family took over the castle estate and launched a second restoration campaign. While the first campaign focused primarily on restoring structural elements and utilities,
